The Prevention Hub

The Prevention Hub is a partnership between Pink Hope and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. The Prevention Hub includes a Genetic Counsellor and Programs Manager who will be located at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. The partnership aims to help all Australians assess and manage their risk of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer and provide enhanced services and programs to the high risk community.

The Prevention Hub will build and improve information and services to raise awareness of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer and to support people to understand what their personal breast and ovarian cancer risk is and how they can take charge of their breast and ovarian cancer risk.

These goals will be achieved through the appointment of a Programs Manager and Genetic Counsellor based at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

So far the Prevention Hub has delivered the following:

Know Your Risk Tool

This tool provides an assessment of a women’s family history of breast and ovarian cancer risk so together with their doctor women can formulate a plan to manage their risk and, if they are eligible, seek a referral to a Family Cancer Clinic.

“Our aim is for all Australian women and men to complete the online assessment tool. This will equip them with knowledge of their own individual risk and give them the information they need to start a conversation with their healthcare professional. This tool has the power to save lives, it’s as simple as that. – Krystal Barter, Pink Hope”

Online Genetic Counsellor

Sometimes men and women have questions about their family health history that they wish to sound out with someone before they speak with their doctor or a Family Cancer Clinic.

“Having access to a qualified genetic counsellor who can support them through providing credible advice about what options they have available and where to get more information. – Krystal Barter, Pink Hope”

Information and Resources

Improved information and resources to support people at increased risk for breast and ovarian cancer.

“Working with Pink Hope, we aim to provide people with high quality, easily digestible information and support at their fingertips to extend the reach of services available in specialist hospital settings and Familial Cancer Clinics. – Dale Fisher, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre”
