Know Your Risk is an online questionnaire that helps women assess their personal risk for developing breast or ovarian cancer.
Previously, the tool used a woman’s family history to assess her risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer. We have now updated the tool to include other factors that can strongly impact risk of these cancers. This means that more women with potentially high risk of breast or ovarian cancer will now be picked up by the updated tool than were identified with the previous tool.
The updated Know Your Risk tool also includes more personalised information about a women’s individual risk factors, as well as more recommendations for next steps to manage their risk – these could include lifestyle changes, additional screening like 3D Mammogram and ultrasound, genetic testing and other preventative measures. Women can print out their results to discuss further with their health professionals.
Pink Hope worked with a medical writer to develop the updates and ensure all changes are in line with Australian and international cancer guidelines. The updated tool was then reviewed and approved by practising Australian health professionals, including a medical oncologist and genetic counsellors from the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
Overall, we think this update helps us better achieve our aim is to empower all women with a greater understanding of their risk of breast and ovarian cancer, and equips them with information and resources to help manage that risk. We hope you agree!
We invite you to try the updated tool – it takes only 5 minutes. We would love to hear your thoughts on it.
