Discovering you are at high risk of developing Breast & Ovarian Cancer in your lifetime is overwhelming. It’s a really bizarre feeling as nothing has changed. You don’t have cancer, you aren’t physically different to how you were before, but it feels like something has monumentally shifted.
Pink Hope has been an invaluable resource to help me understand what being high risk means, and provide information about all of the things I can do to reduce my risk. I’ve also been able to connect with a fantastic and supportive community of women online, and in-person at some fabulous functions, who really understand what you are going through.
Since becoming a Pink Hope member I have had the opportunity to volunteer for them work to raise awareness about what they do as a preventative health hub, promote their breast density campaign and talk about the “Know Your Risk Tool”. I’m very passionate about the work that Pink Hope does to advocate for women’s health, and it’s very rewarding to give back to such a fantastic organisation.
A message from Katharine
It is an incredibly emotional and personal experience finding out you are high-risk. There is no right or wrong way to face it, just a right way for you. Surround yourself with supportive people, and take care of your mental and physical health.
