My mum passed away in 2014 after an 18 month long battle with triple negative breast cancer. I attempted to access genetic testing shortly after, my GP was very encouraging but I was told by the Genetic Counsellor that I wasn’t eligible for testing. In 2017 my aunt was diagnosed with ovarian cancer but thankfully won her battle. This now made me eligible for testing which I undertook and was found to have the BRCA1 gene mutation. I’m currently in the process of seeing surgeons to have a preventative mastectomy.

I don’t want to die like my mum, so this is the best choice for me.
