Pink Hope’s Member of the Month program recognises a member of the Pink Hope community who supports and inspires other increased risk women and represents the mission of Pink Hope.
Sarah’s Member of the Month
Pink Hope is so proud to recognise Sarah as member of the month. Sarah supports other increased risk women on the online support groups, shares her story including with her local high school and raises awareness and funds for Pink Hope.
Sarah inherited her BRCA2 gene mutation from her Mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer over 10 years ago. She undertook genetic testing in her early 20s and at only 27, and just one week after her wedding, she underwent a risk reducing mastectomy with reconstruction. A few years prior her husband was diagnosed with bone cancer in his shoulder blade. Tom had his shoulder blade removed and went through 11 months of chemotherapy and arduous hospital stays. Tom and Sarah have provided each other with incredible support to ensure they both lead a healthy and long life.
Sarah’s personal story is on the Pink Hope website.
A Message from Sarah
“I can’t begin to thank Pink Hope enough for this amazing honour. After years of feeling isolated and alone due to my BRCA status, I felt so welcomed into a family of women who I immediately shared something so unique with. The support gained by others readiness to share experiences, knowledge and personal journeys is incredible and I know without pink Hope I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m privileged to know so many of these women who have overcome their individual hurdles and continue to positively affect those around them. These are the women who I thank and am inspired to become. Thank you to Krystal and Pink Hope for driving this organization to where it is today and helping so many high risk individuals like myself feel connected, informed and supported. Thank you to Emma & Roe for their ongoing contribution to our wonderful organization and allowing Pink Hope to continue their amazing work across the country.”
