Shelley’s Story
Shelley has a black belt in Taekwondo, she is a mum to four gorgeous children, a grandmother to a beautiful baby boy and is a BRCA2 gene carrier. Shelley’s BRCA journey began in January 2011, when she received a phone call from her father. Shelley’s father had discovered that he carried a genetic fault that increased a carrier’s risk of certain cancers, in particular breast, ovarian and prostate cancers. He encouraged Shelley and her two brothers to get tested right away. In September 2011, Shelley and her brothers were tested for the BRCA2 gene mutation. Her brother’s results came back negative while Shelley’s results came back positive.

After four years of high risk screening Shelley chose to have a risk reducing double mastectomy with reconstruction to reduce her breast cancer risk. She plans to have her ovaries removed in the next few years to reduce her ovarian cancer risk.

Shelley’s personal story is on the Pink Hope website.

A Message from Shelley
“I feel very privileged and honoured to be selected as Pink Hope’s member of the month. I feel very blessed to be involved with and able to give back to an organisation that has given me so much over the years and provides such an amazing support network for families, such as my own, that are at increased risk of breast, ovarian or prostate cancers, either because of genetic faults or strong family history. I would also like to say a huge thank you to Emma & Roe, for the gorgeous gift I have received and for developing the gorgeous Pink Hope collection that assists our charity by providing financial support enabling Pink Hope to continue to run the wonderful programs they currently have, such as the conference, and the Know Your Risk tool and to continue to add to the support services. I feel very fortunate to be connected to both Pink Hope and Emma & Roe.”
